Module 1 All over the world - 1 Workbook - Blue Skies Student's Book 5 (Traducción de la lectura al español)

Ferdinand Magellan Ferdinand Magellan was a famous Portuguese explorer who gave the Pacific Ocean its name. The name means that it is a calm and peaceful ocean. He also led the first expedition that sailed around the world although he himself did not finish the journey. At first he sailed under the flag of his native country, Portugal, but when the Portuguese King Manuel II refused to let him lead an expedition to the Spice Islands in Indonesia, he decided to leave Portugal and go to Spain. The Spice Islands were very rich in spices which people could trade around Europe and which provided them with important financial benefits. At time, Spain was in competition with Portugal for business and was looking for new routes to get to the Far East in order to trade. Portugal controlled the route that went around the South of Africa and then East towards India, so Spain needed to find a new route. Magellan planned an expedition that would reach the Spice Islands by crossing west over the At...

Resumen de "El Gato Negro" de Edgar Allan Poe

Imagen
